Where's the handle?

At my grandparents house they have standard refrigerator that looks pretty normal. There's nothing special about it, no ice dispenser or anything like that. Freezer on the top with the refrigerator on the bottom. The first time I used it I was thoroughly confused. There wasn't an handle on the door. Instead there were indents on the sides of the doors where you put your hand in and pull it open.

The reason that this confused me was there were handles on both sides of the the door! There was no difference between the left and right sides. This obviously made me think that the door was stuck when I couldn't open it at first. I didn't take long to figure out that it was the other side that needed to be open but this was clearly a bad design. Why didn't they put the indents on only one side of the door or put handles to make the opening side more clear?

Phone Keyboard

The phone have I have is the Samsung Solstice. I don't know if anyone is familiar with the phone but it is an all touch screen phone. There is no slide out keyboard for texting or anything like that. Yet, when texting there is two different ways you can text. If you hold the phone upright there's the option to use the number system (ex. 1=a, b, or c) which can be use in the regular format or T9.  The other way you can text is if you hold the phone sideways it displays a full QWERTY keyboard. Since the phone is fairly small in size, which has its advantages, the spacing with the buttons on the keyboard are very small.

The problem with the buttons being to small is that it makes it very difficult to hit the desired button. This gets very annoying. I almost never use this option when texting even though sometimes it may be easier to type things with a keyboard. I know this isn't just a problem for me because I've had others test it out and they've had the same difficulties.

Right Click?

Though not as common as using the left click on the mouse, the right click is still a useful part of using a mouse to perform certain tasks. This is confusing for the Mac's in our classroom. I don't use mac's too often so I'm not too familiar with how to do certain things that are different from my computer. When using the mac's in class, i noticed the mouse didn't have a right click option. It was just a one click mouse with no other option.
This confused me because I was always used to clicking left if that's what i needed to do. I tried to figure out how to get around using this option but this was annoying. After asking how to perform this simple task, I was told that you needed to hold the ctrl button and then click. Though this was a small change, it still was annoying and unnecessary .

Weight Room

A design that really gets to me is the weight room in the brezzano fitness center. What I'm mainly talking about is the way the bench/squat area's are set up on the first floor. My complaint is that the barbells need to be moved sometimes in order to change the workout (maybe from regular bench press to incline bench press). In order to do so you have to take the barbell off the to change the height of the arms that hold it up. Now the barbells arfe fairly large and with everything sort of close together, this could be a diffcult task, especially when moving something thats forty five pounds.

I think that if the weight room was a little more spread out so that this normally easy change can be made, it would help the person whose working out get their work done a lot faster. You wouldn't have to slowly move the bar around and struggle to find a place to put it while you changed postitons.

HDR

HDR ( High Dynamic Range) refers to a technology that displays a wider range of light and dark colors on a screen. When this technology is implemented it creates a more realistic output through your video gaming experience. For example when a human emerges from a darker area into a lighter area they experience a "bloom" effect which makes it hard to see. HDR implements this affect into the video game. When the player does this sort of action it will create this bloom effect that we experience in the real world. This also helps the shading from light to dark and the variations of brightness.

The use of HDR creates an output of more realistic situations when viewing the videos game's world. The items in the game become more life like and create better amount of detail in the objects.

Doors

Another bad design that I've came across is a set of doors at a friends house. The front door leads to a small hallway which has two other doors that you can enter. One of the doors is on the left side and the other door is straight ahead.

The problem I have with this is the front door opens on the left side but the door straight ahead opens from the right. The first time I entered this house I was confused because I naturally expected the door to open on the same side. I would say that the only good part of the design is that both doors open in-ward so there's never a time were the doors are hitting each other but the flaws are clear.

Ice Trays

I believe that one of the worst designs of all time may be the ice tray. I say this for a few reasons. For one my sink was never placed next to the refrigerator and was a short walk to and from the two points. Why this was a problem was because when walking back to place the tray into my freezer I was almost always would spill some on the way back. There was no real fill line or desired point where you stop filling it up but for some reason I always went a little more than you probably needed and would always cause this to happen. Another reason is because the how many times has anyone not been able to get the ice out of the tray. I always end up twisting to flex the plastic or bang it against a hard surface to get it out. New refrigerators have a built in ice dispenser so it pretty much took away the use for them now but that was always one of the worst designs that came to mind.
